• Question: do u feel the current economic crisis is aiding the science field

      Hi, probably the exact opposite, with the recession there is less money available for scientific research funding

      Some the cutbacks have adversely affected science, in both industrial and academic laboratories.

      However, when times are hard, people tend to focus more on the important things – so maybe the long term effect of the current economic crisis will be good for Science.

      Yes, because it helps the UK government realise that Banking/financial services isn’t the only way for a country to generate wealth.

      No, because there’s less money for science at universities and companies.

      I would say it is probably doing the opposite because it means that less funding is availalble to do research.

      You could say that the pressure to find cheaper ways of doing things might help some people to come up with new ways of doing things. But largely I think it it’s a problem (as in every job I guess) – ultimately there’s going to be less people doing the science with less equipment – and I’m afraid that science is expensive – just something we have to work through I guess. Hopefully it’ll be over by the time you need a full time job!
