If you have an awful disease, illegal drugs are not going to help you mindset.

Similarly, if you’re feeling suicidal the best thing is to get help. You can help a suicidal person to change their mindset and gradually start to enjoy their life. You can’t do that if their dead – there’s no way back.

As far as euthanasia goes – if it were made legal the checks should be very rigorous. For instance it should take several years from the date you apply for euthanasia until you are actually euthanised. At least 5.

This is a good question for people to consider, in the case of the use of illegal substances, for example cannabis, to ease pain I do not personally agree with because they can be harmful in their own way and have therefore been made illegal for a reason. In the case of euthenasia, different countries have different laws, I find it difficult to understand the opinion of ending ones own life however I have never suffered in this way or known anyone who has, to properly understand their position.
What are your thoughts on the subject?

I don’t know about the use of depressants, but I do disagree with euthenasia. I think as a society we have to focus on providing the best care for people with ill health or in old age. I had a friend who has 94 died the beginning of this year and it was a real privelege to see that she was getting excellent care from staff who really cared about her and when she died I knew that there was nothing more that could be done to make her more comfortable.

I think that this is a very difficult but important question. I think that more research should be done on the benefits that the illegal drugs can have for people who suffer from conditions like MS. That way it might be possible to make them in a safer form that can be licensed and so the people suffering would then not have to buy from criminals and possibly be seen as criminals themselves. I think that people should have a right to die in a dignified manner when they choose to. But I think that they should undergo some form of counselling and discussion with doctors and their family to ensure that it is definately what they want and nobody else should be able to make the choice for them.
