      First thing is to know what has been done in the past. Then you have to make sure you are doing something unlike anything that has ever been done before. Scientists call this ‘keeping it novel’.

      You tend to try and learn one new thing from each experiment. So each new, different experiment should give you a bit more info. Put all the results together and see if they agree with your overall idea, or contradict your idea.

      Yes I do learn a lot from trying different investigations. Sometimes unexpected findings can change the course of further experiments. All of the experimental findings gradually add up to help discover new things in science, which is what makes science so interesting.
