Probably not – I don’t work on HIV – don’t even work on viruses (although I once made a birthday cake in the shape of a virus for a girl who worked on Herpes). But it’s a good question because often in science we start working on one thing and get really focussed on it, but sometimes end up making a completely different discovery. Lots of important discoveries have been made like this – almost by accident. So I suppose I could find something in my work that ends up being the really important thing other scientists needed to know to cure HIV. There are some treatments for HIV but we always need new improved ones. There are diseases we never find complete cures for though – I hope HIV isn’t one of them.
