This is an interesting question, I think it will affect some areas of medicine although there are many ethical questions concerning the development of genetically modified species. The first genetically modified medicine to be created was synthetic human insulin, which is used in the treatment of diabetes and this has certainly proved to be hugely beneficial. One example might be that in the future it may be possible to ‘grow’ organs for people requiring organ transplants (such as kidneys or heart) in genetically modified animals, however the question of whether this is ethically acceptable must also be addressed.

Genetic modification has affected how we used medicines for the last 10-20 years and will continue to do so.
