Question: do you think that it is more important to be looking for cures for diseases in places like Africa, or is it more helpful to go and be on the ground administering the aid that already exists?
I think you need to do both. There are some diseases where aid where education and aid can prevent the disease – like for example people learning to use condoms so they don’t get infected with HIV. But the diseases I work on really need actual drugs to cure them. SO I think both are important, and I just think that administering aid is something more people can do than the scientific side.
