Well once I have a chemical that can stop a protein working, and if I know that protein is essential to the parasite then that chemical should also kill the parasites. SO I grow some of the parasites and add the chemical and leave it for 3 days to give it a chance to work (I usually do lots at a time) and then I use different tests to see if the parasites are still alive or not.

When it doesn’t work is when it get’s interesting though – sometimes we have chemicals that stop the protein working but won’t have any affect on the cells and we have to try and work out why so that we can fix the problem.
