• Question: How do you test drugs???

      Depends on the drug. Let’s say it was an anti-tumour drug. I’d give it to people with the tumour and see if it killed their tumour.

      I am involved in the very early stages of drug development and I look at a chemicals effect on how cells communicate with each other. The laboratory model that I use has been shown to represent some aspects of learning and memory that are seen in animal behaviour studies. I apply the drugs to my model and if they strengthen the cellular pathway that I am looking at it suggests that they are effective and they are then considered for further testing.
