The main topic I’m currently doing research on is where computers can be applied to problems in chemistry, for example in the discovery of new drugs.

The main topic that I research is how chemicals affect parts of the brain. There is a part of the brain called the hippocampus which helps to make and store memories and this is the area that my research focuses on. I try to help identify chemicals which increase learning and memory in a laboratory model as an early step in drug development

At the moment I hav e two main topics. The first one is investigating the use of monkeys in Parkinson’s disease research and involves reading scientific papers and interviewing the scientists that do the research. The second topic is reducing the number of animals that are used in each experiment. This involves organising Training Schools to teach scientists how to design their experiments more effectively and also promoting how important it is through fact sheets, posters and presentations.
