Your job is constantly changing. You get credited for the work you’ve done.

You are always learning something new and you can use what you learn to make changes to things that are important to you. For me it also gives me the chance to travel to places all over the world and present to people who respect and recognise the work that I do.

For me the benefits are having a job which I enjoy doing, flexibility to generally come and go from work when I want (I usually do about 9-5 because it fits in with my lifestyle and family). I get good holidays (39 days a year) and I find it both challenging and interesting. I also get to travel quite a bit which is good

Most scientists have quite a lot of freedom to work on the problem (or problems) they find interesting – they can just follow their noses wherever it takes them – this freedom is one of the perks of the job.

Another benefit is getting to travel a lot – because Science is international – often the people you need to work with are in another city or country. National and international travel is another benefit of being a scientist
