0 Question: What causes us to get shudders down our spines? Asked by shannonc to Darren, Deuan, Duncan, Lori-An, Michelle on 24 Jun 2010 in Categories: General.
Darren Nesbeth answered on 18 Jun 2010:
A gust of cool air across the back of the neck.
Perhaps an adrenalin rush?
Duncan Hull answered on 18 Jun 2010:
Scary movies.
Lori-An Etherington answered on 22 Jun 2010:
I think the ‘shudder down the spine’ feeling is an involuntary reaction or reflex. A shudder is a muscle contraction followed by relaxation and can progress across muscles – so it feels like it is going down the spine. Hope this helps
Michelle Hudson-Shore answered on 24 Jun 2010:
It’s proably all to do with nerves and muscle contractions but I’m not totally sure.
