This is a hard one, I think I felt the best (and most relieved) when I passed my PhD because I had put so much effort into gaining it.

Having the chance to go to Tokyo in Japan to present my work. It is an amazing place and many of the scientists in that part of the world are only just starting to think about alternatives to animal experiments so I felt like I was really making a difference to how they viewed their work.

The best moment was getting the PhD – it was a long drawn out process – and I was very nervous in the exam at the end. A PhD exam is called a “viva” its an interview with a panel of scientists who criticise your work while you defend it.

Passing a PhD viva is an important milestone in any scientists career – and means you have qualified as a professional scientist.
