No, it cost billions of pounds to produce drugs and the work that I do for the drug company is covered by their funding. We have been asked by the organisers to use the prize money (should we win it) for science communication so I would use it towards making some hands-on exibits for use in schools and science fairs to try and explain how parts of the brain work and how some drugs act on the brain. I am hoping that this idea would encourage people to understand and enjoy learning about the area of science which I work in.

No. I would use it to help my iGEM team.

I wouldn’t use the money to produce drugs, I’d like to use the money to build a model of the ribosome – the machinery inside cells that makes proteins.

Well the money for this competition is meant to be used to do public engagement work – in other words showing the public what science is about. For me I would probably use it to produce some materials for a workshop on tropical diseases along with a debate on health in developing countries which could be used in schools.

btw does your nickname come from you secretly thinking JUstin Bieber is the best pop singer in the world?

No I’d use it to set up an interactive website that provides useful and interesting information to help all kinds of people to understand why the search for non-animal scientific methods is important and how it can be done.
